What is a Data Center?

Data centers are the hubs of companies' and organizations' information. They are actual facilities that can house, what was initally for physical servers, but now virtual networks that supports their work and applications over tons of infrastrucure and into a system of made of multiple clouds. Data centers are essential because they collect, store, process, distribute and allow access to large amounts of data. They are able to support tasks like file sharing and customer relationship management. All kinds of components, like routers, backup generators, ventilators, storage systems, servers, and application-delivery controllers can be found in a data center to help support if anything goes wrong withthe center's hardware and software.

What is the relationship between Data Centers and the Cloud?

A cloud data service is essentially a remote version of the physical data center, but set up away from a company's location. The Cloud allows for people to access the data through the Internet. Clouds are a better alternative and also cost-effective compared to setting up and running a data center. The benefits to the cloud is that unlike a data center, the cloud has the potential to have unlimited capacity. A disadvantage is that you don't have much control over the hardware, since it is set up away from the company's premises.
